Jón Leifs (May 1, 1899 - July 30, 1968) was an Icelandic composer. He left Iceland within 1916 to study inside Germany at a Leipzig Conservatory. He graduated within 1921 having studied piano, so devoted his period to conducting & composing. He became successful as a conductor, & as well as a writer.
He married the Jewish pianist, Annie Riethof, & experienced ii girl, Snót and Líf. He sleep in Wernigerode and subsequently within Baden-Baden. His personal was harassed per Nazis. Around 1944 he moved to Sweden, and around 1945 he moved back to Iceland.
He at length divorced his married woman.
One of his girl, Líf, drowned within a playing accident off the coast of Sweden, & he wrote his string quartet Vita et Mors around her memory.
His survive act, Consolation, Intermezzo for string orchestra wwhen written as he was anxious. He died of lung cancer around Reykjavík in 1968.
Leifs & his married woman come a cases of the film Tears of Stone (1995), directed per Icelandic director Hilmar Oddsson.
